It’s Time for the Bellevue Farmers Market!

Opening day for the Bellevue Farmers Market is nearly here! Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 18th in the parking lot of Bellevue Presbyterian Church.

The Bellevue Farmers Market has been a staple on the Eastside for nearly 12 years, and Windermere Real Estate has proudly sponsored since it began in 2004. This farmers market was created as a way to support the farmers who work hard to provide us with food.

The market’s mission is to fully support the farmers and the hard work they do every year and each season. It also gives the growing, urban Bellevue a chance to break away from the fast-paced city life. The food is so fresh and wonderful, usually harvested or made that morning or the day before. You can’t always get food that fresh from the grocery stores!

Starting this year the Bellevue Farmers Market will be accepting Fresh Bucks. Fresh Bucks is a program that matches EBT/SNAP benefits (food stamps) dollar for dollar up to $10 every market day and can be spent on fresh fruits and vegetables. More information can be found on the market website here and on the Fresh Bucks website.

A returning favorite this year is the Power of Produce Club. Also known as POP Club, this fun and educational club will run at the market every week from June 8th-August 24th, and each week a new activity is offered for kids to playfully learn more about nutrition, agriculture, and healthy living. You can sign up and find out more about POP Club online.

Plan your trip to the Bellevue Farmers Market and make sure you’re following them on Facebook and Instagram!

A Windermere Tradition: Windermere for Kids 2016

wfk2016banner

On Saturday, nearly 300 Windermere Real Estate brokers from six Eastside offices came together for Windermere for Kids. For the 16th occasion, Windermere brokers donated $225 gift cards to over 100 kids from the community.

The morning of the event, each of the over 100 children between the ages of 7 and 12 (a “little shopper”) were given a $225 gift card to Target and partnered with a broker who helps the little shopper select gifts for members of their family. Unbeknownst to the little shopper, a gift for them was also purchased. Gifts were then taken into the mall to six large wrapping stations, each powered by 15 to 20 brokers. The gifts were wrapped, tagged and packaged for the little shopper to take back to their family. While they waited for the gifts to be wrapped, there were Santa pictures, crafts, and food and beverages to keep them busy.

Since 1998, this event has been a favorite for brokers who year after year choose to support Windermere for Kids over having a company holiday party. Together, they helped deliver the holiday spirit to 109 deserving children and their families living on the Eastside. Over the 16 years of this event, Windermere Real Estate/East, Inc. has donated almost $250,000 to families involved in Windermere for Kids.

We’ve Got You Covered

weve-got-you-covered

Windermere and the Seattle Seahawks have come together to help #tacklehomelessness in our community.

As part of that campaign, offices on the Eastside are participating in Windermere’s “We’ve Got You Covered” winter drive.

From October 17 through November 14, we are collecting new hats, scarves, gloves/mittens, and warm socks for YouthCare, a non-profit that provides support and services to homeless youth throughout the Puget Sound area.

Each night in Seattle, nearly 1,000 young people are homeless. Please help them stay warm during the cold winter months by dropping off your donation to one of our offices during the drive.

The Joy of Giving: Windermere for Kids 2015

Nearly 300 Windermere Real Estate brokers from six Eastside offices came together on December 5, 2015 for the 15th occasion of “Windermere for Kids” since 1998. This event is a favorite for brokers who year after year choose to support “Windermere for Kids” over having a company holiday party. Together, they helped deliver the holiday spirit to 100 deserving children and their families living on the Eastside.

A special thanks to Brian Homman, Carlos Cruz, and Ronnie Dennis of Loaded Pictures in Seattle for their hard work and time in creating this video.

The morning of the event, each of the 100 children between the ages of 7 and 12 (a “little shopper”) is given a $200 gift card to Target and partnered with one of the brokers who helps the little shopper select gifts for members of their family. For many of the children, this is the first time they have experienced the joy of gift giving. Unbeknownst to the little shopper, a gift for them is also purchased. Gifts are then taken into the mall where there are six large wrapping stations, each powered by 15 to 20 brokers. The gifts are wrapped, tagged and packaged for the little shopper to take back to their family. While they wait for the gifts to be wrapped, there are Santa pictures, crafts and food and beverages to keep them busy.

Windermere Foundation Honored

IMG_3057This morning the Eastside Windermere Foundation was honored as LifeWire‘s Partner of the Year at the organization’s annual Hope Starts Here Breakfast. Windermere broker Joel Scott accepted the award on the Foundation’s behalf.

The Eastside Windermere Foundation has been supporting LifeWire (formerly Eastside Domestic Violence) for 15 years. This last year, we provided them with a grant to continue supporting their Hotel-Motel Voucher program. This provides short-term stay in hotels and motels for victims of domestic violence until safe housing can be found.

LifeWireLifeWire envisions a world in which every person lives in a safe environment, free from oppression and with the opportunity to thrive. Every day the abused children, victims and families who come to LifeWire are winning the battle against domestic violence. LifeWire’s programs and services have been helping victims become survivors, changing the statistics, redefining the positive outcomes along the healing journey, ending domestic violence, and improving lives.

It is an honor to be able to give back and support organizations like LifeWire that do so much for our community. Thank you, LifeWire, for naming us your Partner of the Year and thank you for everything you do!

#YourStoryIsOurStory: Finding a Dream Home after Forty Years

erinhoppeysims
Bob and Gail have lived in the same house for 40 years. You’d think that a small one-level home with no yard or a condo would be their next step. Not for these two! They’ve dreamed of living in a big home on acreage. We just closed today on their dream home, which consists of 3,600+ square feet on 6 acres. They are excited to buy a riding mower and get to work in the yard. Just goes to show you, it’s never too late to live your dream! Of course their agent, Erin Mitchell Hoppe, had to buy them matching John Deere baseball caps. #YourStoryIsOurStory

Throughout the year we will be posting some of our favorite #YourStoryIsOurStory videos, photos, and blog posts. Please take a minute to share your experiences, and follow #YourStoryIsOurStory on our blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest pages.

While the Thursday market is the larger of the two markets, Saturday continues to grow as the need for fresh, local food increases with the population of the downtown urban dweller.

Windermere has been a corporate sponsor of the Bellevue Farmers Market since its opening in 2004.

You can visit the Bellevue Farmers Market Thursdays at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church parking lot from 3-7pm until October 15, and Saturdays at Compass Plaza from 10am-3pm through November 21. Remember, both markets have plenty of free parking available.

For farmers market addresses and more information, make sure you visit BellevueFarmersMarket.org and take a look at their blog, Urban Farm Junkie.
